Our large Christmas Hamper - “Jingle All The Way” – contains two delicious jars from Goetre Farm Preserves. Based in Barmouth, this family-run business was establised by Karen and David Collett in 2004. Following a bumper crop of greengages in their small kitchen orchard, which were made into preserves and then received enthusiastically, Karen and David decided to create a small farmhouse kitchen company. Now, David does the cooking in traditional style, using open top pans on one single five burner range.
After much sampling (because everything was so delicious!) we decided that their Welsh Farmhouse Chutney and Red Onion Marmalade were the perfect accompaniments to the cheese and biscuits we also love.
The Welsh Farmhouse Chutney was the first to be made – and was their first award winner. It is made with various vegetables, dates and a little chopped dill “to give it a little edge” they say!
Their Red Onion Marmalade is as straight-forward as it sounds. It is delicious with cheeses and cold meats and is also great to add to gravy when cooking red meat or game.
Not only are these chutneys ideal with cheese, but we figure that they should feature pretty highly on the Boxing Day table as well!
